Farewell my trusty Xbox…

It has happened. As an Xbox 360 owner you can probably wait for it to happen, but you still have hopes that it never happens. Well, it just did. The so called Red Ring of Death has appeared on my Xbox and I cannot get it to work anymore. A quick call to tech support resulted in the inevitable: I have to send it in to be repaired. I’ve done that before and haven’t seen my Xbox for well over a month (maybe even 2). Hopefully that’ll go faster this time around. Xbox support advises to register your console online and make a repair request through their site. Luckily for me, the site is being weird and doesn’t want to accept my request. I’m so glad everything works as it should…

  1. Looks like this ‘xbox’ thing isn’t quite working out for you (how many times did you have to repair it?). Maybe you should get another gaming platform; one that lets you replace faulty hardware on your own and doesn’t get ‘red rings of death’. It’s also upgradable and has a superior controller setup called the ‘mouse and keyboard’. You might want to look into it.

  2. What my Xbox does have, is the games I like to play. I haven’t come across a single PC game in recent history that I really wanted to play. As much as I hate the fact that I have to send it in for repair, it´s a small sacrifice to get it back to work again. And if I whine some more I can probably get a free game thrown in there ;-)

  3. Ah the magical Red Ring of Death moment, luckily the service has improved quite alot since the last time you’ve had to send it in (it hopefully still is). Mine died just before christmas. Within a week I got a new one. Didn’t get a free game though :(

Within the 2,5 years I’ve had my xbox I’ve upgraded my pc twice just to be able to play the games I like on the pc and run a newer version of the OS on it. Total cost: about €750.
To be able to play the latest games that run smooth and run a new user interface thingie I’ve had to upgrade the xbox 0 times: total cost €0

Then again, that doesn’t keep me from upgrading my pc. or maybe even buying a new one later this year :P
